The triple masted schooner was delivered under the name Jessica in 1984 by the Spanish shipyard <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/211" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Astilleros de Mallorca S.A. (Company)">Astilleros de Mallorca</a>. <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/997" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Arthur Holgate (Company)">Arthur Holgate</a> and <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/230" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Dykstra Naval Architects (Company)">Dykstra Naval Architects</a> collaborated to design her exterior lines and naval architecture, while <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/31" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="John Munford Design (Company)">John Munford Design</a> was responsible for her original interior design. In 1991, she underwent a complete refit at the <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/209" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Pendennis Shipyard Ltd (Company)">Pendennis shipyard</a> including a transom modification and full interior refurbishment and has since paid subsequent visits to the yard in 2001 and 2008.
