Launched in April 2023 by the Dutch shipyard Oceanco, the highly anticipated project, initiated in 2021, is owned by Amazon founder Jeff Bezos. Her design is influenced by the Lürssen sailing yacht EOS, featuring a midnight-blue hull and classic elements including a traditional canoe stern and elongated bowsprit. Her interior, handled by Mlinaric, Henry & Zervudachi, is crafted to provide a high standard of living space, with an internal volume of 3,493 GT. Koru also features an impressive carved wooden figurehead, based on one of Jeff Bezos’ favourite mythological figures, Freyja.

An interesting aspect of Koru is her experimental kinetic energy recovery system, which aims to convert the energy from wave motion into electrical energy. Accommodating up to 18 guests, Koru is assisted by the 75-metre support vessel Abeona, built by Damen Yachting, enhancing her capabilities with extra amenities like a submarine and helicopter, and additional crew space. Constructed to meet Lloyd's Register standards, Koru is currently undergoing maintenance works in MB92 La Ciotat
