Realising Dreams: Interior outfitting at Sinnex's Austrian production facility

While a yacht's interior journey begins with the vision of designers and owners, it is the specialist interior outfitter who takes to the helm to carefully curate it. Founded in Germany in 1996, the team at Sinnex does just this; with over 25 years of experience under their creative hats, they source the finest materials, develop bespoke solutions, and pride themselves on honouring traditional craftsmanship.Since its inception, the company has added various world-class projects such as Dar, Black Pearl, and Maltese Falcon to its growing portfolio. Unlike other interior outfitters working in the residential, aviation and commercial arenas, Sinnex has streamlined its focus. The company dedicates 100 percent attention to superyachts, distinguishing itself through a commitment to detail, delivering high-quality interior finishes and bespoke solutions for every project. 

Expanding their horizons 

They opened their Austrian production facility in Griffin in 2004 and have come a long way since. Beginning with a modest 4,000 square metres of space, in 2022, the facility doubled in size to meet escalating demand. Today, in this unassuming town, is where the magic happens. Now boasting 8,000 square meters of production space and a further 2,000 square meters, two-floor office building, Sinnex utilises the space to manufacture its high-quality interior components and collaborate with various designers and yacht owners. 

Managing Director and CEO Erika Verachter explains the reason behind the expansion, now hosting their team of 130: "Upon expanding our production facility, we have provided much more room for our team. This has not only made for an improved working environment but significantly boosted efficiency."

Each unique yacht project requires a myriad of materials and surfaces, and the production facility houses such range, from noble marble and warm wood to sleek metal. Sinnex also works with a range of natural materials, stone and glass. While their upholstery workshop has various types of leather, fish skin leather and goat parchment. "Each creation that emerges from our facility is completely unique, from the one-of-a-kind furniture pieces to the intricate materials," adds Verachter. 

To cater to designers' evolving needs, they have also introduced a new department for special surfaces and finishes. Meanwhile, the additional office space has meant an increased capacity for executing those project management tasks.Honouring craftsmanship 

Central to Sinnex's ethos is a time-honoured process. The company nurtures an extensive network of specialists using traditional artisan processes to deliver on their projects. Working directly with shipyards and clients, they bring creative visions to life by focusing on traditional craftsmanship and hand-crafted designs, resulting in the highest quality and precision.  

It is this quality that is paramount in the superyacht realm, especially within intricate interiors. Despite implementing state-of-the-art facilities, Sinnex still emphasises the human touch. "The essence of our work lies in valuing heritage and craftsmanship; it is truly about the artisan's connection with the material. We remain dedicated to preserving and championing these skillsets," explains Verachter.

Verachter adds: "Our hand-crafted process is vital, especially for high-quality veneers, as we select and construct everything by hand to produce a perfect finish. This way, the designers get exactly what they have designed and can seamlessly achieve an owner's stylistic vision."From a place of passion

Verachter remarks: "An owner's representative who regularly comes to evaluate finished projects before we send them to the shipyard for installation once shared a distinctive feature of our production facility. They noticed that beyond being able to inspect all sourced materials and furniture within the facility, they said it is the passion of our team that makes us truly stand out."Eyes on refit 

While 90-95 percent of Sinnex's contracts currently lie in the new-build sector, the expanded production facility has piqued interest from the world of refits and is set to continue. The company is looking into opportunities to set up a bigger department focussing on refit projects. 

"One of the reasons for our production facility expansion is to offer more capabilities to the refit sector. With refits, you have to act quickly; having your own production facility to meet deadlines is important," Verachter explains.
